Event:Belle Isle Aquarium, Invasive Species Exhibit Opening & Talk

Belle Isle Aquarium, Invasive Species Exhibit Opening & Talk by Lindsay Chadderton, 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013

This is an invitation to you to attend the Grand Opening of the Invasive Species Exhibits at the Belle Isle Aquarium on November 2, 2013 and a special program on the Science and Management of Invasive Species that begins at the Aquarium at 3:00 pm the same day.  This new exhibit at the Aquarium is partly sponsored by a grant to Wayne State University.  In addition to the exhibit itself, Lindsay Chadderton, an expert on invasive species from the Nature Conservancy, will be our featured speaker.  See the attached announcement.

Dr. Chadderton will give three 20-min popular science talks on "Invasive species in the Great Lakes" at 11 am, noon, and 1 pm, followed by the program on Science and Management of Invasive Species beginning at 3 pm.  The 3:00 program will have refreshments and will feature an optional docent-guided tour of the Aquarium at 3:10 pm.  The talk by Dr. Chadderton, entitled "Managing Invasive Species in the Great Lakes:  Lessons from the Asian Carp," will begin at 3:30 pm and end about 4:30 pm.

The Belle Isle Aquarium is open every Saturday from 10 - 3 pm.  The Belle Isle Aquarium was designed by Albert Kahn and is the oldest operating public Aquarium building in the United States.  Some years ago it was closed to the public due to city budget problems; however, due to the energetic efforts of volunteers, the Aquarium is now reopened to the public every Saturday. The Aquarium is rebuilding its collections, public exhibits, research, and educational activities.

It would be great if you would attend the special events on November 2. To help us plan refreshments and seating, please complete the RSVP form at the following web page:
