    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    1.  Does Psych hire GSIs from other departments?   YES, EACH TERM WE HIRE CURRENT GRAD STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE OF THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPT.

    2.  Should I contact the instructor of the classes I'd like to GSI for?  YES!  You are encouraged to contact instructors via email and tell them why you're interested in GSIing for them.

    3. I applied for a Psych GSI position in Fall 2020 term.  Can I use the same letter of rec?   -YES YOU CAN. SUBMIT IT WITH YOUR OTHER DOCUMENTS IN A SINGLE PDF in the Sharepoint application.

    4.  The person writing my letter of rec doesn't want to send it directly to me.  WHILE IT IS HIGHLY PREFERRED YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION WITH A SINGLE PDF THAT CONTAINS THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS, I UNDERSTAND SOME RECOMMENDERS DO NOT WISH TO SEND THEIR LETTERS TO STUDENTS.  THEY CAN EMAIL THE LETTER TO MWOLGAST@UMICH.EDU.

    5.  The application asks for "a letter from a representative of your program" that I'm in good standing.  Who do I get this from?  YOUR ADVISOR OR AN ADMINISTRATOR FROM YOUR PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT.  THEY CAN  SEND YOU A SHORT EMAIL STATING YOU ARE IN GOOD STANDING AND GSIING WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A STUDENT.  Then you can print that email as a PDF and combine it with your other documents.
