Fall 2020 Language Courses and Resources for International Students

 

The English Language Institute is excited to offer a full range of online courses and language resources for international students and other speakers of English as an additional language. For Fall 2020:
  • All ELI courses and other services will be offered online. 
     
  • ELI courses and resources are open to students and scholars in any school or college at the University of Michigan - Ann Arborincluding those who will be starting programs internationally or anywhere in the U.S.

Undergraduate Students

Courses - One credit mini-courses for intensive support in speaking and pronunciation.

Studios - One-on-one meetings with ELI faculty to receive feedback and support in any area of spoken or written English. Studio consultations can be for academic or professional purposes.

Workshops - Interactive workshops focusing on specific English writing and speaking skills that students need to succeed in their courses and prepare for their professional careers.
 

Graduate Students

Courses - For credit courses in advanced writing, reading, grammar, speaking, pronunciation, and GSI training for students in masters or doctoral programs.

Language Clinics - One-on-one language and academic support for international graduate students, GSIs, scholars, faculty, and staff. 

Workshops - Interactive workshops focusing on academic and professional language skills for graduate students.

International Scholars, Post-Docs, Researchers, Faculty, and Staff

Courses - Courses focusing on the academic skills that scholars, researchers, faculty, and other academic professionals in all disciplines need to succeed in the academic community.

Language Clinics - International scholars have limited access to the Graduate Language Clinics.

Language Resources Available to the Entire U-M International Community


Conversation Circles - Informal conversation groups meant to create connections and friendship between US and international UM community members.

Online Self-Study Tools - A database of high quality free sites, apps, and other digital tools for advanced English language learning.
