The Horace A. Rackham School of Graduate Studies offers a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies. To earn the certificate, students are required to take 12 credits of approved courses at the graduate level and complete an internship. All students take the Museum Studies Seminar (Fall and Winter terms, 6 credits) and six credits of electives, some of which may also meet other degree requirements. The program provides support for expenses associated with a required internship.
The multi-disciplinary museum studies program draws on ideas from the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, design, business, law and policy, education, and technology. Students have countless opportunities to apply theories in a vast array of museums and cultural institutions on campus, in the region, nationally and around the world. Since its inception in 2003, 200 students from 11 U-M colleges and 36 academic disciplines have completed or are currently pursuing the certificate, producing an abundance of transdisciplinary scholarship and engagement.
The program is accepting applications for Fall 2020 until February 28, 2020. Additional information about the certificate program and application process is available from our website: http://ummsp.rackham. umich.edu.
We are holding a reception for prospective students on January 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Multi-purpose Room. Faculty and current students will be on hand to answer questions about the program and light refreshments will be served. Prospective students can also contact me via email hedstrom@umich.edu.
