Biology position at Proof School, an independent secondary school in San Francisco

We invite applications for a teaching position in biology, to begin July 2019. We have low course loads, small class sizes, and a small, vibrant school community. Proof School is located in downtown San Francisco and provides a rich liberal arts education for kids in grades 6 through 12 who love math.

Teaching at Proof School is fulfilling and meaningful, with most of our faculty having earned a PhD in their respective fields. We work with some of the Bay Area's strongest students across the curriculum, many of whom travel over an hour each way to attend school. Our very small community means that we know each well. Teaching at Proof School carries the potential to make a significant, positive impact in the life and education of our students.

If any of your graduate students would be interested in an informational interview, I would be happy to arrange for them to learn more about Proof School. Of course, they are also welcome to submit an application directly to work@proofschool.org.

Sam Vandervelde
Head of Proof School

About the Position

The position includes establishing our biology lab, and teaching both core and elective courses in biology. Courses are expected to include a substantial wet lab component, and the core high school biology program should include, and go beyond, the AP Biology syllabus over a two-year course sequence.

We seek an individual who can construct engaging classroom activities and play a significant role in the full life of the school. Prior secondary school teaching experience is preferred and a bachelor’s degree is required. The school provides a generous benefits package with competitive salaries based on education and experience.

About the School

Proof School was founded on the premise that kids who love math thrive in a community where they are surrounded by students who share that love. We serve some of the most motivated students in the San Francisco Bay Area, with students commuting up to two hours each way. Grading includes narrative reports that reflect on a student’s academic achievement and disposition toward learning.
