Get involved in science policy and advocacy with ESPA

Interested in science policy or advocacy but don’t know where to start? Engaging Scientists in Policy and Advocacy, or ESPA, is an interdisciplinary student-run organization established at the University of Michigan as a means to provide scientists and engineers with opportunities to get involved in policy and advocacy.

This fall, ESPA will host several workshops to equip researchers to effectively engage with non-scientists and lawmakers on controversial scientific policy issues, using tools such as persuasion through personal connection and op-ed writing. We will also continue to our popular Ask a Scientist Bar Nights, giving scientists opportunities to engage with diverse audiences across SE Michigan. In the spring, ESPA will host its second Washtenaw County Consensus Conference to inform state and local policymakers on the public’s educated view on water quality.

To stay up to date on ESPA activities, workshops, and opportunities, sign up here. Graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty of all backgrounds are encouraged to sign up! If you would like more information on ESPA, please visit our web page or send us a message.

Best,
ESPA Leadership
