Dear GSIs,
Happy New Year!
This winter, ELI (English Language Institute) and SLC (the Science Learning Center) offer undergraduates and international GSIs in LSA science fields a unique opportunity: co-mentoring. What is co-mentoring? Co-mentoring matches a GSI and an undergraduate science tutor or study group facilitator to share conversation and cultural exchange about teaching, graduate and undergraduate perspectives, and disciplinary expertise. In the process, co-mentors develop fast friendships. Apply here by January 22, if possible, since the program starts on January 23 at 5:30pm.
GSIs in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Math, and Statistics
- practice real-world English language
- explore teaching and learning with a student
- learn about undergraduate culture
- explore their co-mentor's cultural context.
Undergraduate peer tutors and study group facilitators in Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Biology
- gain intercultural competence
- explore teaching and learning with a GSI
- improve their knowledge of a STEM content-area
- gain insight into the experience of being a graduate student in a STEM field.
Apply now! We have room for 6 GSIs or future GSIs, and have already recruited more than six enthusiastic undergraduate co-mentors who work for SLC.
