The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and a number of partners, including Daemeter, are organizing an event entitled Forests Asia Summit 2014: Sustainable Landscapes for Green Growth in Southeast Asia. It will be held on 5-6 day May 2014 in the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Forests Asia Summit 2014 will be a two-day conference that aims to provide a platform for bilateral and multilateral exchanges of more than 1,000 business executives, civil society and development experts in the pursuit of new green-growth pathways. Ministers with forestry, the environment and natural resources portfolios from most Southeast Asian countries have confirmed their attendance as speakers. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has indicated his desire to give the opening keynote address. Designed to open dialogues with business players in land use sectors in Asia, speakers also the private sector include Franky Widjaja, CEO of Golden Agri Resources, Sunny Verghese, CEO of Olam International Ltd., Mark Burrows, Global Vice Chairman of Global Investment Banking at Credit Suisse. Themes for the Summit include Investing in landscapes for green returns and Governance and legal frameworks to promote sustainable landscapes. With sessions discussing improving performance in the oil palm sector and innovative approaches to financing for green returns, we hope Forests Asia could be an arena to learn from each other and provide balanced views on the private sector and the role it plays in responsible and equitable management of natural resources.
