Tenure-track Assistant Professor of
Biology
Two Positions
Centre College
invites applications for two tenure-track positions as Assistant Professor of
Biology to start in fall, 2014. Application deadline is October 7. For the two
positions available, the college desires that both of the candidates have
teaching and/or research experience in genetics. For one of the candidates,
teaching and/or research experience in aquatic biology is desired. Successful applicants will have completed a
Ph.D. in the biological sciences and must demonstrate a commitment to
excellence in both teaching and scholarship.
In a three year cycle, successful
candidates for both positions can expect to teach the following courses: introductory biology (evolution, diversity,
ecology), introductory genetics, senior seminar, and a new course in the
candidate’s area of specialization that complements existing offerings. Additional courses to be staffed between the
two positions include microevolution and freshwater biology. Participation in
non-majors courses offered at the college (first-year studies, environmental
studies, or natural sciences) is also anticipated.
Collaborative research with
undergraduates is both expected and supported.
The biology program is housed in the recently renovated Young Hall which
provides modern instrumentation and lab facilities for both teaching and
research. The college has a professional affiliation with the Central Kentucky
Wildlife Refuge (http://www.ckwr.org/)
which serves as a location for field research and class activities. Applications with supporting materials
