Events: Munger Graduate Student Housing Residence

Rackham Student Government is hosting a forum to discuss the proposed Munger Graduate Student Housing Residence this Wednesday September 11th from 6-8p at the Assembly Hall in Rackham. The philanthropist and University of Michigan alumnus, Charles Munger, has very generously donated $110 million to the University for the purpose of building a residence hall for graduate and professional students. This project was designed to foster a community where students from across disciplines may live together and share ideas. The proposed design calls for 7-bedroom suites, each with their own bathroom, and a large kitchen/living space. Although the official cost has not been announced, it is estimated that each bedroom will cost in excess of $1000. Some students have already raised concerns about the design and the projected cost of living.
Our goal is to solicit feedback from the graduate student body on the proposed design, and to begin a dialogue about the variety of on- campus housing that would appeal to graduate and professional students in the future. Representatives from RSG and the administration will be there to discuss the design and answer any questions.
