High School Outreach program

High School Outreach program: Lab-on-wheels (2/26-3/2) looking for TAs
Are you looking for a spring break activity? Let’s give high school students significant hands-on experience to change their attitude towards science. A lab-on-wheels program will allow high school freshmen to engage in gel electrophoresis experiments and to explore online gene sequences in their biology classrooms. We will run this STEM outreach efforts in all 38 biology classes of Pioneer and Huron Public High Schools during this UM spring break based on last year’s success (1/3 of students responded that they liked science more after a two-hour biotechnology hands-on experience).

Here we are inviting you to be a part of this movement as a TA. One TA will be assigned to help four to five students' performing experiments. You will change at least one student’s attitude towards science per class based on last year’s responses.

We will provide some stipend for your effort of $30 for two 85 min classes, total four classes ($60) a day from 7:50 am – 2:30 pm.

We are seeking 12-14 TA's per day. Once you are selected, there is a mandatory training session before the lab-on-wheels starts (date to be determined based on TA availability).
