Assistant Professor: Plant microbiome
The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of the plant microbiome. We seek a creative individual to develop a high impact externally funded research program that focuses on the plant microbiome and plant-microbe interactions, especially related to the interactive effects of the plant microbiome on root development, plant function and signaling, and the concomitant effects of the plant on the plant microbiome. Development of novel approaches to understand and monitor the roles of the plant microbiome in collaboration with plant biologists, physiologists and breeders to enhance water stress tolerance and pathogen resistance while increasing yield is preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate courses in Plant Pathology and Bioenvironmental Sciences, respectively. Good citizenship includes service on departmental, university, and national committees. Work with a diverse group of students and colleagues and contribute to the diversity efforts of the university. The position is located in an outstanding Department within a highly collaborative college and university. The Department has a dynamic graduate program in plant pathology and plant-microbe interactions, and the largest undergraduate program in the nation focused on Bioenvironmental Sciences. The department will be moving into a new building dedicated to plant pathology and microbiology in 2019.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in plant pathology or a related discipline is required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other faculty both on- and off-campus. Excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of scholarly publications are essential.
