Our social systems are going through incredible change. A new era of communication and transportation is enabling collective actions at unprecedented scales. The world is becoming increasingly connected and at the same time more heterogeneous. The challenges are great and the tools we have historically used to think and act within societies are no longer working.

At NECSI we develop scientific frameworks for understanding societies at the global scale. Our research leads to new methods for solving the world's most important and far-reaching challenges. If you would like to be part of  creating data visualization tools to quantitatively understand the structure and dynamics of sociotechnical systems, please reach out to us. If you would like to further the NECSI mission through public relations and communications, please reach out to us. Together we will develop new ways to improve global conditions.

Data Visualization Developer Description

We are seeking a data visualization expert to be responsible for building an interactive, web-based system. The nitial contract is for one year, and may be extended based upon funding. Desired qualifications include: experience developing web applications, including back and front end; experience with programming languages such as Python or Java for the back end, and Javascript, d3.js and PHP for the front end; experience with database administration and usage, such as Mongodb or MySQL; and experience setting up web-based applications, existing protocols and solutions. The candidate need not be proficient in data analytics or machine learning, but during the project, he/she will be part of an expert team and will have the opportunity to learn these skills. Education: senior undergraduate, graduate, and Postdoctoral positions are possible.


Public Relations and Communications Coordinator Description

Join the NECSI team to help develop, coordinate, and facilitate relationships with key players on the national and global stage. Assist in one-on-one relationship building; organize and perform research on national and global NGOs, government agencies and legislators, health agencies, policy makers and other stakeholders; engage in social media informational campaigns including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn; draft online and other article content, in collaboration with but not limited to the President, VP of Outreach, Content Strategy advisor, and Programs Director. The ideal candidate is either an advanced undergraduate, masters or PhD student or recent degree recipient. The position is part time (10-30 hours/wk) and salary is based on previous experience.
