Empowering the next generation of ecologist!
Greetings SEEDS Friends!
Happy New Year! We hope that 2017 will bring you more success and adventures than ever before and may we share our knowledge with others. This is a busy time of year for science programs and there are some very exciting opportunities that are available for undergraduates!
Our SEEDS Partnership for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) Fellowship is currently accepting applications until January 23rd. We are also about to open the application process for the 102nd ESA Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon! Please read more about these unique opportunities in this edition of SEEDSNouncement!
SEEDS Partnership for Undergraduate Research Fellowship
The SEEDS program is proud to announce that we will be accepting applications for the SPUR Fellowship. The SPUR Fellowship is the highest honor in the SEEDS program, and fellows are encouraged to be the outstanding leaders in the future of ESA. The award supports undergraduate students in designing and conducting an ecology research project of interest. SEEDS has established partnerships with field stations and mentors to offer exciting summer opportunities that will be tailored to meet the students interest, career objectives and growth as a scientist. For most opportunities, no prior research experiences is necessary!
What does the SPUR Fellowship provide?
The fellowship is a fully funded and mentored summer research experience.
Each student will conduct an independent research project at one of our partner stations - travel, housing, research expenses and stipends are provided.
Sponsored to travel to two SEEDS Leadership Meetings, Spring 2017 & 2018
Sponsored to travel, attend and present their research at the 103rd ESA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA in 2018.
A $500 cash award for completing your fellowship!
Who are our SPUR Partners? (Students can apply to 3 stations with one simple application!)
SEEDS Travel Awards to the 102nd ESA Annual Meeting!
The applications will open soon for this years ESA Annual Meeting from August 6-11, 2017. This year the theme of the meeting is Linking biodiversity, material cycling and ecosystem services in a changing world. The annual meeting will bring over 5000 professionals from around the world to participate in scientific presentations, symposiums, workshops, field trips and trade show. It provides an excellent venue to engage faculty and other students in communicating ideas and new knowledge with the rest of the scientific community.
Undergraduate Travel Awardsinclude a complete expenses paid opportunity including travel, registration, housing, meal stipend, a meeting mentor, and SEEDS Alumni mentor. Special consideration will be given to students who want to present a completed research project at the meeting. To submit your research abstract, please visit: www.esa.org/portland
Graduate Alumni Travel Awards are for past SEEDS students that are now in graduate school! Award recipients receive an $800 travel scholarship to use towards attending the meeting. Each SEEDS Alum will be mentoring a group of undergraduate SEEDS participants to navigate the annual meeting. Travel award will be given on location at the student orientation on the first day of the meeting.
