Agriculturalist/Economist Risk Analysts with USDA

PERAL, the Plant Epidemiology and Risk Analysis Laboratory, is recruiting Pest Risk Analysts. We are interested in getting a diverse set of applicants, and hope you will share this information with potential applicants.

PERAL is a part of Plant Protection and Quarantine, in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in USDA. Our mission is to protect U.S. agriculture and natural resources from invasive plant pests while facilitating safe trade. The work is exciting, dynamic, and challenging because the field of pest risk assessment is still relatively new, the threats many and varied (insects, diseases, weeds, etc.), and the traffic and trade situations ever-changing. Much of the analytical work we do is novel. Our lab, on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, has about 30 analysts who are the world’s leading pest risk analysis group.

We are looking for people with backgrounds in economics, biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines. Please follow the link below to see more information and apply.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards, Barney Caton
