Researcher: Informatics and Data Science

A big opportunity for a dynamic science professional with a passion for people and nature. You will be a core part of the Luc Hoffmann Institute, providing strategic research and research support, knowledge management, data science, and informatics to the Luc Hoffmann Institute and its work-streams, projects and working groups. Help WWF build a sustainable future by working closely with the Luc Hoffmann Institute Director and the Global Science Communications Lead to produce the evidence base for the Luc Hoffmann Institute communication stream.

Location/Contract Details:

WWF office in Gland, Switzerland. This is an open-ended employment contract. 

Main responsibilities:
Research, review, synthesize, and monitor the state of the science surrounding a wide range of topics related to the research needs of WWF priority programs and proposed and on-going Luc Hoffmann Institute projects.
Work closely with the Luc Hoffmann Institute Global Science Communications Lead, and the Luc Hoffmann Institute Director, to produce the evidence base for the Luc Hoffmann Institute communication stream, consisting of regular, evidence-based narrative / blog format pieces, with strong graphic exploration of Luc Hoffmann Institute project research and related work.
Write high-quality Luc Hoffmann Institute Science Briefs, Notes and Presentation as requested by the Luc Hoffmann Institute Director and Work-stream Leads.
Establish, enhance, and support data- and knowledge-management practices and policies within the Luc Hoffmann Institute.
Work with Luc Hoffmann Institute and Luc Hoffmann Institute projects to establish, support and enhance their processes for data retrieval, translation, migration, curation, and storage.
Provide informatics and knowledge management support for the Luc Hoffmann Institute and Luc Hoffmann Institute projects.
Organize and manage third-party solutions to quantitative problem-sets.
Engage corporate, academic, think-tank and NGO partners in collaborative computational work in the service of our work-streams
Organize remote and in-person trainings for Luc Hoffmann Institute Fellows on a range of topics (e.g. data-science, informatics, open data practices, knowledge management).
What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
Advanced Degree and significant quantitative experience in one of the following disciplines: conservation, environmental science, environmental economics, social science, or international development OR 5 years of work experience in data-science, informatics or statistics related to one or more of the disciplines above.
Demonstrated experience with heterogeneous data organization and distributed, complex computing environments.
Deep understanding of the role of data, information, and knowledge in the Science to Policy Interface.
Experience in data-rich communications.
Capacity to work rapidly and accurately under pressure and to quickly define and adhere to priorities.
Required Skills and Competencies
Ability and enthusiasm in providing fast and accurate information and in implementing short term but demanding tasks.
Ability to synthesize information from a variety of electronic and written sources and produce clear analysis under time constraints.
Familiarity with multiple approaches to data curation, information management and data science.
Excellent written and visual / graphic communication skills.
Strong quantitative background, including significant experience with either Python or R
Discretion, reliability, flexibility, accuracy.
Ability to work in multicultural environment.
Capacity to work independently in an intense team environment and have good people skills.
Excellent organisational and people skills.
Fluency in English, other languages an advantage.
A good sense of humour.
