Title: Semi-classical aspects of reduction (Joint with Colloquium!)
Abstract: By exploiting its symmetries one can reduce a physical problem to a problem with fewer degrees of freedom. I will discuss some mathematical formulations of this (more or less self-evident) fact and describe some results in classical and quantum mechanics which the "theory of reduction" seems to illuminate.
